An escape from screen-time

Screen-time notifications bring me out in a cold sweat. In fact, I could go so far as saying they’re the kind of thing that can make me run screaming for the (analogue) hills … but I often find that when I get there, the hope I’ll get some relief doesn’t materialise. Picking up a paintbrush might seem romantic in the precise moment you’re not doing it but if you’ve any experience in this area, you’ll know that making art of any sort is rarely a relief.

Maybe it’d be wiser to just ditch the guilt (who’d ever know anyway? The screen-time police?) and try to be intentional about the next thing I do.

This is a daily practice I think, but not one of those slightly oppressive daily practices that involves keeping up your ‘streak’ which is just another form of mental stricture.

It’s a simple case of reminding yourself to make a conscious choice which is really not the same thing as trying to be ‘good’.
